As I’m working throughout the day, I usually have some music playing in the background. I find that this practice happens to make the several hours a day that I spend staring at a computer screen a little more pleasant. Yesterday I found myself playing the soundtrack from 500 Days of Summer.
The soundtrack in and of itself is fantastic. It has everything from The Smiths, Hall & Oates, and Simon & Garfunkel to Regina Spektor, Feist, and She & Him.
In my humble opinion, what makes a soundtrack even better is when you love the film/TV show/musical as well, which in this case, I do. So I’m highly recommending the movie (500) Days of Summer this week. If you’ve seen it, you know that it’s not your average romantic comedy.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt portrays a guy who is looking for that great love and he falls for the girl of his dreams (Zooey Deschanel) who, incidentally, isn’t looking for a serious relationship. It’s a story that we’ve seen, heard, or lived before, but it’s told in such an interesting way as it hops about randomly throughout the 500 days of their relationship, keeping the viewer on their toes.
So if you’re tired of the typical romantic comedy and are looking for something that is quirky and witty this weekend, then you just might want to rent this film for a change of pace. (Plus the dance number to Hall & Oates mid-way through the movie will make just about anyone smile and dance along.)
Happy Movie Watching, my friends!
