My Kindle Love

You know how you come across things and wonder, how did I ever live without this?  Well I feel this way about my Kindle.  So when it came to me recommending something I love, I would have been remiss to not mention the Kindle next.  It’s lightweight, easy to read on (thank you e-Ink and no-glare screen), compact, handy, and I really could go on and on.

When the Kindle 3 was announced, I quickly ordered one and scrambled to find my Kindle 2 a good home.  It found a great home, and I was thrilled with my new purchase.  Amazon has dropped the price of the newest e-reader quite a bit from when I purchased the Kindle 2, opening it up to an even wider audience of people who could justify purchasing it.

I know that a lot of you are saying to yourself that you can’t imagine not holding a book in your hands, and I thought the same thing.  However, I can honestly say that I haven’t missed this feeling at all since owning my Kindle.  In fact, when I have a book I want to read that I don’t have electronically, I find myself putting off reading it because it’s so bulky to hold and transport.

As for the cost of Kindle books, Amazon often runs special deals on books, so you can be on the look out for a great price.  Also, you can get tons of books for free, including most classics.  Even better, Amazon is starting to allow the borrowing of e-books, so you can share books between your friends and family members.  (My Kindle is registered on the same Amazon.com account as my mom’s and my sister’s Kindles, allowing us to share books that we buy.)  It’s fabulous!

You can personalize your e-reader with great covers that make it feel as if you’re holding a book.  There are also a huge variety of skins you can put on your Kindle to tailor it to your aesthetic.  Below are a few links:

Oberon Designs – Leather Covers
DecalGirl – Skins for Everything

Trust me, if you’re in the market for an eReader, you will not regret this purchase.  Enjoy!

**Author’s note – as the years have passed, so have the available Kindles, so head over to Amazon’s (above) website and check out all of the versions that are out there – it’s truly an amazing product!

I love mine too! I have the Kindle 3, which is my first, and I love it…and as much as I love books I also don't miss holding a real book. The Kindle is much easier to hold in one hand and turn a page with one hand than a real book since I'm usually holding a child in the other hand!

I couldn't agree with you more. (That's no surprise, is it?) I haven't regretted having a Kindle (either 2nd or 3rd generation) at all. My Kindle 2 was a gift from my wonderful family, and is the best gift I ever received (other than some awesome sentimental things that my talented daughters have made for me). My Kindle 3 is spectacular for all of the reasons that you mentioned. Don't get me wrong. I still love paper books (especially cookbooks and coffee table books), but I NEVER leave home without my Kindle, and I always have several books in progress, as well as a huge to-be-read collection waiting for me.
