Here you’ll find questions I regularly get asked.
What recipe substitutions do you recommend?
I can only speak to the ingredients I list in the recipes, so if you go “off book” a bit, then I can’t guarantee your results. Here are a few substitutions I make though:
- Vanilla bean paste in place of extract almost always (1:1 ratio)
- Vegan butter for regular butter (1:1 ratio)
- Almond Milk in place of regular milk and I add some Jalapeño Tabasco to it if it’s for a savory recipe.
- Ground Chicken and Ground Turkey are often interchangeable.
I’m on the hunt for a recipe, so how do I find it?
I’m so glad you asked! Look at the top of the site for the different menus, and you’ll see one for Recipe Index. There you can filter by all sorts of categories and find things that fall in line with it.
There’s also a search bar to search the entire site and not just recipes, so search away! You can find it on a mobile device if you continue scrolling and it’s under the area to sign up for my newsletter. (Which you should totally sign up for if you want to new recipes & tips delivered right to your inbox.)
What if I’m not a great cook?
My blog is a place I hope both home cooks and newbies will love. There’s a huge variety of recipes, and with every single recipe post, you’ll find step by step photos. So you’ll know exactly how your food should look each step of the way.
Also you might check out my favorite beginner recipes that are delicious and a great way to ease into cooking.
What kind of recipes will I find?
A little of everything. The fact is that I’m eclectic in my interests and also in the foods I love to cook and eat. You’ll find plenty of healthy recipes and a few indulgent ones as well. I also share a variety of different types of cuisines with my recipes, because I love it all!
If you’re looking for something specific, let me know. Perhaps it’s something I’d enjoy to create and share here!
Do you follow a diet?
Nope, I really don’t. I can’t seem to get excited about strict rules and diets, so I try to eat 80/20. Meaning 80% of my food is healthy and clean, and 20% are the treats I give myself like good beer, dark chocolate, and more.
In 2017 I experimented with cooking dairy free all year long, so you will find a lot of recipes free of milk products. It was mostly a challenge to see if I could do it and discover new ways to cook healthy. But going forward, you will see some dairy make an appearance, but I aim to be more aware of the quality I buy so that it’s hormone free as much as possible.
